Human Beings in the Modern World
Healthcare Superplatform
Currenty public healthcare service apps are very limited due to the lack of ability to utilize user’s personal data and 3rd party integrations. We are missing lots of efficiency and personalization due to the rigidness and basic digitalization of the healthcare services. There are lots of good but separated data hubs (like kanta.fi) where the information exists, but it is not used for our benefit. What if we could build a superplatform for public healthcare users, aka citizens? How might we aggregate personal, medical and lifestyle data from the public healthcare sector, 3rd party service providers and users themselves to build new kinds of value propositions for the citizens? Which would be the first simple use cases where the public healthcare sector and 3rd party service providers could offer extremely good service for the citizens? In this project we aim to build use cases and demonstrate those through simple apps and user interfaces. We are looking for people interested in software engineering, data sciences, healthcare, service design and UX.

Garage as a Service
Traditional car leasing models are growing in popularity. At the same time there have been many trials for different car sharing solutions. We are interested in concepting a service for high-end car brands that offer flexibility and luxury for the customers through a “Garage as a Service”. Instead of leasing one car for 4 years, you could have the flexibility to change the vehicle based on your current needs and change the car at a centralized garage periodically. Is your family growing? Go and change for a bigger car. Want to enjoy the summer in convertible? Go and get the coolest convertible available! How would you productize and design this kind of “garage” service? How could you leverage the trends of hyperpersonalization, sustainability and ease of maintenance in this kind of concept? How would the service be presented to the customers and what would be the “terms of service”? In this project we assume money is not the issue for the customers. Join this project if you are interested in car industry, new business models, service design, visual design or marketing!

Sympathetic Drones
The brand of drones is tarnished by the current use cases for them. Whether thinking about drone espionage or straight-out military drones used in Ukraine, the current mental image of the drones is very negative. We also know that the number of drones in our cities and everyday lives will skyrocket in the upcoming decades. There are good examples of how to make autonomous technology approachable and even sympathetic. One of these examples is the Sale delivery robot in Finland (https://tinyurl.com/2s7e2wf5). People find it funny and adorable how the small robot is waiting at the crossroad for the light to turn green and asks for help when getting stuck. How might we make delivery drones as sympathetic and adored? What kind of elements would make drones more approachable and sympathetic? How should the design look like? How should the drone communicate to people? How to make the interaction with robot feel safe and pleasant? In this project we want to design sympathetic delivery drones that would spread joy and build trust between the service and people. We are looking for people interested in drone tech, product design, psychology, sound design and media.

Byte-powered Future
Sustainable Luxury Cars
Sustainability is a hyped for a reason. It just might save our beloved planet from irreversible changes. In products and services, it is still often treated as “a little worse, a little more expensive” option, leaving many frustrated and others disappointed. Currently luxury means expensive, rare and often very unsustainable products or services. If a different approach was taken, sustainability could be seen as the ultimate luxury in the future. In this project the luxurious & sustainable theme is approached through the car industry. How should a future’s car be designed to deliver a luxurious experience not traditional, but in highly sustainable fashion? What are the driving factors, appeal creators and values to raise onto pedestal? How does the sustainable luxury feel like for customers? What are the physical or digital embodiments of sustainable luxury in the future in cars? We are looking for concepts and designs for the next luxury cars and the functions that are sustainable by nature. Join the project if you are interested in car tech, visual design, sustainability, media, material sciences or marketing!

Future of Work
Office You Love
In recent years, the concept of a traditional office space has undergone significant transformation due to advancements in technology, changing working patterns, and evolving employee expectations. Hybrid work means that coming to an office to work needs to add a lot more value for the employees than before. As benchmarks, there are many state-of-the-art co-working spaces around the world, but they all tend to offer the same old values: Wi-Fi, designer chairs, coffee, and snacks. If we think about an expert organization that has 500 square meters of office space. How would you design the best possible work environment for 40 experts working for the company that makes other people envious of the office space? The office can offer different kinds of services to the employees and it could facilitate various work-related use cases. In this project, we aim to build multiple concrete demos and conceptualize the best working environments as they should be. As the end results, we are looking for holistic designs and visualizations of a modern workplace. Join us to envision better places to work! We are looking for people interested in interior design, architecture, accessibility design, wellbeing and service design.

Robots All Around Us
This project explores how citizens view the growing presence of autonomous systems. Right now, there’s about one autonomous system (robot, drone, self-driving car, etc.) for every 150 people in smart cities. In the next 20–30 years, that number will rise quickly, bringing benefits like new services, safety, and convenience to cities and their people—but also challenges like stress and disruption With drones in the air, autonomous vehicles on the streets, and robots delivering packages in a busy smart city, how can we simulate this in the metaverse? Once we have the simulation, what should be communicated to the citizens and how? There are obvious risks like unauthorized drones using the airspace or emergency situations that could be prepared for in the simulation. This project uses metaverse simulations to explore risks and responses for future smart cities. Join us if you’re interested in design, game development, user experience, or smart city development!

Kuka? Mikä Demola? Missä?
(ENG: As our hubs in Finland are growing in numbers, we thought it would be nice to give a brief introduction to Demola’s innovation projects also in Finnish. Please click "In English" for the English translation.) Demola-projekteja on tehty Suomessa jo vuodesta 2008, ja kansainvälisen osallistujajoukkomme ansiosta työkielemme on aina ollut englanti. Vaikka työkieleemme ei ole tullut muutosta, Suomessa olevien hubiemme eli paikallisten toimipisteidemme kasvaessa ajattelimme, että pieni paketti Demolasta suomeksi olisi paikallaan. Tässä siis lyhyt katsaus Demola-projekteista toisella kotimaisella kielellämme.
